Governance
AACM is governed through a structured framework designed to support regional representation, academic collaboration, conference organization, and continuity of leadership.
Organization
The Asian-Australasian Association for Composite Materials (AACM) is organized as a non-governmental, non-profit scientific and engineering association. Its governance structure is designed to support academic exchange, regional cooperation, and the continuing organization of the Asian-Australasian Conference on Composite Materials (ACCM).
The general organization of AACM consists of the following principal components:
· The General Assembly
· The Council
· The Executive Committee
· The Officers
· The ACCM Conference Organizing Committee
General Assembly
The General Assembly is composed of AACM individual members and honorary members. It meets during each ACCM Conference to conduct the business defined by the Constitution and Regulations of the Association.
The General Assembly is responsible for electing Council members, ratifying amendments to the Constitution and Regulations, and making other decisions as required by the operating rules of AACM.
Each individual member has one vote at the General Assembly, unless otherwise specified in the Constitution and Regulations. Decisions are generally made by simple majority vote, while constitutional amendments require a higher approval threshold.
Council
The Council is the principal governing body and legal representative of AACM. It has the authority to interpret the Constitution and Regulations, oversee the affairs of the Association, and conduct business not otherwise provided for specifically in the Constitution and Regulations.
The Council consists of AACM officers, elected members, co-opted members, and ex-officio members. The Chair of an ACCM Conference Organizing Committee serves as an ex-officio member of the Council for the relevant conference cycles.
Council members are elected by the General Assembly based on nominations from the membership. The Council may also co-opt additional members to provide balanced representation across countries, universities, institutions, industries, government bodies, and composite materials communities.
The Council supports the officers, reviews governance matters, oversees compliance with the Constitution and Regulations, elects officers and Executive Committee members, appoints successors when needed, reviews proposals to host future ACCM conferences, and determines the use of AACM funds.
ACCM Conference Organizing Committee
A dedicated Conference Organizing Committee is established for each ACCM Conference. The Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee is selected by the Council in advance of the relevant ACCM conference cycle, and the Vice Chairs and general members are appointed according to the Constitution and Regulations.
The Conference Organizing Committee is responsible for preparing and conducting the relevant ACCM Conference, including academic program planning, local organization, registration, conference logistics, publications, sponsorship, and coordination with AACM officers and the Council.
The ACCM conference series is a central activity of AACM and serves as a recurring platform for academic exchange, professional networking, and international collaboration in composite materials science and engineering.
